Questions people ask
Do men get the same benefits from a facial as women?
Usually, yes. Our facials are for men and women alike, chosen from your skin rather than your gender. On average, men's skin is thicker and makes more oil, and their pores tend to be larger, so congestion and blackheads are a common starting point, which the HydraFacial's extraction step is designed for. The steps, downtime and aftercare are the same for everyone.
Which facial is good for dry, oily or congested skin?
For oily, congested skin with blackheads, usually a HydraFacial, which lifts oil and debris out of the pores while serums go in. For dry or dehydrated skin, especially skin that reacts to acids, often Dermadrop, which mists actives onto it without touching it. Heleo4 LED can help calm breakouts and redness, often alongside a HydraFacial. Deep, cystic acne, or dryness that itches, cracks or forms red, scaly patches, needs a doctor's look first. We suggest the one your skin needs, not all three.
Can I have a facial during pregnancy?
Not with our facials. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are among the reasons we don't do a HydraFacial, Dermadrop or Heleo4 LED, so they wait until you have finished breastfeeding. Until then, a gentle cleanser, a plain moisturiser and daily sunscreen carry the plan. If darker patches or breakouts appear during pregnancy, mention them to your obstetrician or a dermatologist. When you are ready, tell us and we'll plan a first session from where your skin is then.
How long before a wedding or event should I get a facial?
Three to seven days before for a HydraFacial, with the suction kept gentle so any redness has time to settle; a day or two before for Dermadrop, if there are no filler or anti-wrinkle injections in the area and no other invasive aesthetic treatment in the last five months; and a few days before for Heleo4 LED, to calm reactive skin. Have your first session well before the day, so you know how your skin responds: the last week or two is not the time for something new. Tell us the date and we'll plan back from it.
How many days after a facial will I see results, and how long do they last?
Skin often looks fresher the same day after a HydraFacial or Dermadrop. With Heleo4 LED it is usually calmer after the first session, and the visible change comes over three to five sessions. Because the outer layer of the skin keeps renewing itself, the effect fades over the following weeks, so a regular rhythm does more than a single session: a HydraFacial once a month, Dermadrop top-ups every two to four weeks after a course, or LED every three to six weeks.
Is there downtime after a facial?
Downtime is the time your skin needs before it looks ready for work or photographs. After our facials it is usually none: some people look slightly pink for an hour or so after a HydraFacial, or for a short while after Dermadrop, and skin often leaves Heleo4 LED calmer than it arrived.
What side effects can a facial have on my face, and what aftercare helps?
Usually mild and short-lived: pinkness for an hour or so, and stinging or tingling with a HydraFacial; less often dryness, light peeling or, with stronger suction, bruising. More rarely, a serum ingredient causes itching, swelling or a rash, so tell us what your skin has reacted to. Blue LED light can leave lasting darker patches on medium and deeper skin tones. Aftercare: daily sunscreen, and no scrubs or exfoliating acids for 48 hours after a HydraFacial, or a day after Dermadrop. Message us if redness lasts beyond a few days.
Does a facial really work, and what are its benefits for the skin on my face?
It can, within limits: a facial is upkeep, not a transformation. A HydraFacial cleanses, lifts oil and debris out of the pores and hydrates; in a small imaging study, the skin's outer layer was smoother after one session. Dermadrop hydrates without touching the skin, and Heleo4 LED can help calm breakouts and redness as part of a plan. The effect fades unless the rhythm continues. A facial won't fade deeper pigment, firm the skin or stand in for treating a skin condition; if your concern runs deeper, we'll say so.
HydraFacial vs a regular facial: what is the difference?
A HydraFacial is one kind of facial; what sets it apart is the method. One handpiece cleanses, exfoliates with a light acid peel, extracts and hydrates, as a vortex of water and suction lifts oil and debris out of the pores while serums go in, with boosters chosen for your skin rather than by the menu. It takes about thirty minutes, up to an hour with boosters and light therapy, and downtime is usually none. Like any facial, it refreshes the surface: it won't lift the skin or clear pigment.
