Before a wedding or event: what to book, and when

Work back from the date. In the last week, keep to treatments that usually settle within hours, such as a deep-cleansing facial three to seven days before or a needle-free infusion a day or two before. Anti-wrinkle injections and filler need at least two weeks, light and laser treatments come as courses with sessions weeks apart, and skin firming builds over two to three months, so those start well ahead.

The short answer

Close to a date, choose treatments that usually need no recovery time: hydration and a deep cleanse a few days before. Anything that needs time to settle is best planned weeks ahead.

Probably not that: Not the week before: injectables take around two weeks to settle, and lasers longer. Tell us the date and we will plan backwards from it.

What it is, and why it happens

Every treatment runs on two clocks: how long any redness, swelling or flaking takes to settle, and how long the change takes to show. The closer the date, the shorter both need to be, which gives a rough order, working back from the day.

Three months or more ahead is the time for whatever builds slowly or comes as a course. Firming with focused ultrasound (Ultraformer MPT) or radiofrequency (Volnewmer) shows at two to three months. Pigment and redness treated with broadband light (BBL HEROic) take three to five sessions, three to four weeks apart, and radiofrequency microneedling (Sylfirm X) three to five sessions about four weeks apart, with the fuller result at eight to twelve weeks. Laser hair removal (excel HR) is six to eight sessions over six months to a year, and collagen-stimulating injections build over two to three months.

One to two months ahead suits a first treatment with filler, leaving time to see how your face settles and to adjust calmly. Light and laser courses can end closer to the day, as long as the last session has time to settle: MOXI, a gentle resurfacing laser, leaves a fine, bronzed, sandpaper-like texture that sheds within about a week, so its last session goes at least a week, ideally two, before the day; after broadband light, treated spots darken and flake away over five to ten days, so leave about two weeks.

Two weeks ahead is the latest for anti-wrinkle injections, which take about two weeks to work fully, and for filler, whose swelling and any bruising usually settle within a week or two; a month gives room for a small adjustment. In the last week, choose what usually settles within hours: a HydraFacial three to seven days before, a session of Heleo4 LED light a few days before to calm reactive skin, or Dermadrop a day or two before, if you have no filler or anti-wrinkle injections in the area and have had no other invasive aesthetic treatment in the last five months.

What may help

Dermadrop TDA · Needle-free infusion

Dermadrop mists tailored actives onto the skin on a stream of oxygen, with no needles and no contact, for hydration and glow. It suits dehydrated, dull or sensitive skin, and close to a date it is a gentle choice: one session a day or two before can give a glow, with make-up straight after if you like, or a short course in the weeks before can end a day or two ahead. Downtime is usually none; the skin can look slightly pink for a short while, and less often an ingredient in the serum causes itching, redness or a rash, so a first session belongs well before the day. It isn't used over filler or anti-wrinkle injections, within five months of another invasive aesthetic treatment, or with an infection, a cold sore or a flare of a skin condition in the area, and it doesn't lift or firm.

HydraFacial Syndeo · Skin-health facial

The HydraFacial cleanses, gently peels, extracts and hydrates in one pass, with a vortex of water and suction and serums chosen for your skin. It suits congested, dull or dehydrated skin that needs a reset before a big day: have it three to seven days before, with the suction kept gentle so any redness has time to settle, and for congested skin, a monthly rhythm in the months before. Some people look slightly pink for an hour or so; skip make-up for the rest of the day if you can, keep SPF on and don't exfoliate for 48 hours, as the outer layer of the skin is thinner for a while. Stinging or tingling is common, and an allergic reaction to a serum is rarer but possible. It waits with sunburn or a fresh tan, a cold sore, isotretinoin in the last six months or a flare of eczema or psoriasis, and it won't clear pigment or lift the skin.

What to be careful with

Don't start anything new in the last week or two, at the clinic or at home: a new peel, scrub or strong active, or a first treatment, can leave the skin irritated, and skincare ingredients are a common cause of allergic reactions on the face. Nor is it the time to squeeze a course together: the gaps between sessions are part of how they work, and stronger settings to save time usually mean more redness for longer.

If your plan mixes injectables and devices, the order matters: focused ultrasound and radiofrequency are spaced apart from recent filler or anti-wrinkle injections, so tell us everything you have had, and the doctor sets the order and the dates.

What matters in Dubai

Sun and heat are the local risks to a plan. After broadband light, two weeks out of strong sun are part of the treatment, and after MOXI, a month of hats and shade; after focused ultrasound or radiofrequency, saunas, hot yoga and strong heat wait for a week or two. So a beach weekend, a desert trip or a holiday in the sun close to the date is worth planning around.

Eid follows the lunar calendar, so its date moves earlier each year, and Eid al-Fitr comes straight after Ramadan: the weeks before it fall in the month of fasting. Treatments can still go ahead; if you are fasting, an appointment after iftar may simply be easier, and before injections it lets you drink water and take any tablets the doctor suggests.

Skin tone matters for timing too. Deeper skin tones mark more easily: anything that irritates or overheats the skin can leave a dark patch that takes months, sometimes years, to fade. Close to the date, that is one more reason to keep to gentle treatments you have had before, with sunscreen every day.

When to see a doctor first

Tell us early about anything medical, because it can change the plan. Pregnancy or breastfeeding means most of these treatments wait. Deep, cystic acne, a flare of eczema or psoriasis, a rash, an infection or a cold sore in the area is treated or allowed to settle first, and if you get cold sores, the doctor can plan ahead for treatments around the mouth. Mention every new medicine as well: isotretinoin, medicines that make the skin more sensitive to light, steroid tablets and blood thinners all change what can be done, and when.

A spot or mole that is new, growing or changing is checked by a doctor before any light or laser goes near it. And if a rash, itching or swelling appears after a new product or treatment, message us straight away rather than adding another treatment on top.

Questions people ask

How far ahead of a wedding should I start?

It depends on what you would like to change: three months or more for firmer skin, pigment or redness; a month or two for a first time with filler; at least two weeks, ideally a month, for anti-wrinkle injections; and the final week for a HydraFacial, or for Dermadrop where there are no injections and no other invasive aesthetic treatment in the last five months. Tell us the date and what you have in mind, and we will plan back from it.

My event is less than two weeks away. What can I still do?

Keep to what usually settles within hours: a HydraFacial three to seven days before, LED light a few days before, or Dermadrop a day or two before if there are no filler or anti-wrinkle injections in the area and no other invasive aesthetic treatment in the last five months. Injectables and light or laser sessions are better left until after the event, when there is time for them to settle.

Can I wear make-up straight after?

After Dermadrop or Volnewmer, yes. After a HydraFacial, skip it for the rest of the day if you can; after MOXI, wait 24 hours, and after Sylfirm X, a few days. Sunscreen goes on either way.

I'm back from a holiday with a tan. Can I still have light or laser before the event?

Usually not straight away. A fresh tan or recent sunburn raises the risk of burns and of darker or lighter patches, so broadband light and MOXI wait for it to fade, and laser hair removal waits or has its settings adjusted; a HydraFacial waits too. Dermadrop doesn't rely on light or suction, so it may still suit you, once we have looked at your skin.

When should I have laser hair removal before the event?

Start the course months ahead and keep the sessions at their intervals rather than squeezing them together. Time the last one so the treated hairs have shed by the day, which takes one to three weeks; the redness around the follicles usually fades within hours. Keep self-tan off the treated skin through the course.
